9to5Mac: iPad won’t be able to download apps bypassing the App Store
Apple has clarified that third-party app stores will not be added to the iPad. This was reported by 9to5Mac.
The corporation noted that support for third-party stores on iOS, which was announced at the end of January, will not appear on the iPad platform. Thus, Apple tablets are deprived of important functions that will appear on iPhone smartphones.
According to media journalists, iPadOS will not have the function of downloading applications bypassing the App Store, alternative payment systems to Apple Pay and new browsers. Apparently, the company decided that the European Digital Markets Act (DMA) only applies to iOS, and iPadOS is a completely different operating system.
Until 2019, iOS was the universal system for iPhone and iPad. However, five years ago, Apple dedicated iPadOS to branded tablets. It is believed that iOS and iPadOS have the same basis and differ only slightly from each other.
At the end of January, journalists from Appleinsider noticed that the operating system for the iPhone now includes software for third-party payment systems. The description says that third-party developers will have access to the API to work with NFC.
