After introducing the armored Cybertruck model to sales at the end of 2023, Tesla is to focus on a completely new car, which will be very different from all other products in the offer of the company led by Elon Musk. Apparently, Tesla intends to win the hearts of those who do not want to spend a fortune on an electric car.
Tesla is reportedly working on a new car. It will compete on the market with its price
How Tesla is currently working on a completely new car model built on the next generation platform. Four people familiar with the matter told the agency on condition of anonymity (the project is still shrouded in secrecy) that the vehicle codenamed “Redwood” is to go into production in mid-2025 and will be a relatively cheap proposition for mass consumers. Possible price ranges are, of course, unknown, but it can be suspected that this is a cheaper proposition than the Model 3 (in the US, the price starts from $39,000).
Reuters recalls that Elon Musk has repeatedly suggested that Tesla has ambitions to create a relatively cheap electric car that will compete not only with cheap electric cars from China’s BYD (), but also with cheaper gasoline vehicles. Until recently, the billionaire promised to build a car that would cost only PLN 25,000 in the base version. dollars (approx. PLN 100,000 net).
Two Reuters sources claim that Tesla sent requests for proposals to partners regarding elements of the “Redwood” project last year, specifying that the estimated production volume was 10,000. copies per week. Tesla was to set June 2025 as the start date for vehicle assembly. However, another agency source points out that Tesla, in the case of most models, is too optimistic in assessing the time needed to move from the design phase to production, so the realistic deadline is rather 2026. This has already happened, but at a much higher price than Elon Musk promised in 2019.
Unfortunately, “Redwood” will be neither a classic sedan nor a slightly sporty coupe. According to Reuters sources, Tesla will not go against the grain this time. The safest possible option was chosen, i.e. a “compact crossover”. This is an extremely popular type of car recently (especially in Europe), which is small in size, but looks like an SUV. It’s a pity, because – although crossovers sell very well – many car enthusiasts consider them to be the most boring cars we can find on the market today.
