iOS 17.3 introduces iPhone theft protection via Face ID or Touch ID
Apple has added anti-theft protection through an iPhone update. This was reported by a Lenta.ru correspondent.
A new Stolen Device Protection option was introduced in iOS 17.3. Once the feature is activated, the iPhone will not accept a passcode for unlocking if the device is far from the user’s home or other secure locations. The device can only be unlocked via Face ID or Touch ID.
When interacting with settings sections related to changing a password or sensitive data, iOS will also ask the user to authenticate using Face ID or Touch ID. According to Apple engineers, this will reduce the risk of losing personal data if the device is stolen.
In addition, the update added a new design for the Unity lock screen, collaborative playlists in Apple Music, AirPlay support in hotels, and an optimized accident recognition function.
At the end of January, the European Commission (EC) spoke about Apple’s proposal to add third-party payment systems to the iPhone. Apple also agreed to a fine of up to ten percent of global annual sales if it violates its obligations.
