TechRadar: Sleep apnea monitoring will be removed from future Apple Watch
Apple may remove a planned feature from future smartwatches. This was reported by TechRadar.
Media journalists referred to a report by insider Mark Gurman, who found that Apple’s public patent dispute with Masimo could have profound consequences for the IT giant. Gurman believes that the future Apple Watch will remove the sleep apnea monitoring feature.
According to the analyst, this option is also based on the function of determining blood oxygen levels. However, Apple cannot use a pulse oximeter in its watches, as it is accused of violating the relevant patent.
The authors of TechRadar noted that this function was planned for the Apple Watch X, the brand’s anniversary smart watch, which is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2024. There is a possibility that the company will find a way out of the situation, but Apple has too little time left before the release of the device. “This would not be a problem if Apple could quickly resolve the patent dispute with Masimo. But at the moment this is unlikely,” the journalists concluded.
On January 18, Apple began selling smartwatches without a pulse oximeter amid patent infringement proceedings. On Apple Watch of US users purchased before January 18, the pulse oximeter will continue to work.
