Apple intends to ditch third-party processors in iPhones, Macs and other gadgets. Bloomberg reports.
The agency’s report says the American company will hire dozens of specialists to work on expanding its processor line. The company intends to become completely independent from third-party suppliers in the production of its gadgets and switch to its own components. In addition to the core chips, Apple executives are planning to release a replacement for the wireless hardware they are now supplying from Broadcom and Skyworks Solutions.
Reporters noticed that Apple smartphones, tablets and computers come with A and M series chips, which were developed in-house. Also in iPhones and other devices there is a U1 coprocessor, the H1 chip allows AirPods to provide a reliable connection to the sound source.
Experts believe that in the coming years Apple will be able to completely abandon the services of manufacturers of the remaining chips in its devices. In 2020, the corporation stopped working with Intel, which supplied processors for Mac computers.
In late November, Nikkei sources said that Tim Cook’s company intends to switch to in-house modems in 2023. Components for the iPhone will be manufactured by Taiwan partner Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC).
