Appleinsider: Apple patented iPhone interface for underwater use
Apple engineers have proposed a simplified interface for using a smartphone underwater. Appleinsider reports this.
Media journalists drew attention to the patent, which was filed by the company in 2021, but was published only three years later. The document states that iPhone owners often use the device in an aquatic environment and proposed creating a special interface for the device.
According to the inventors, the new interface can be activated before the user comes into contact with water – for example, during a boat trip or diving to depths with special equipment. The appearance of iOS will change: the interface will receive increased contrast buttons, smooth animation, and many functions will be disabled. So, “Camera”, “Phone” and other important applications and services will remain on the main screen.
Journalists noted that the first waterproof iPhone appeared in 2016, but even the current iPhone 15 Pro is not intended for use under water. On the contrary, the Apple Watch Ultra smartwatch is aimed at recreational diving at depths of up to 40 meters and can operate at a depth of one hundred meters.
In September 2023, an Apple patent was discovered online that described the possibility of creating smart clothing. The paper describes the development of fabrics with sensors integrated into them.
