Media journalists refer to their own sources, according to which the American company is working on its first game console. The device will be based on the Apple TV set-top box. Whether the device will receive its own screen or will only work with TVs is not reported. However, insiders found out that the company’s engineers are working on their own gamepad, which will be similar in design to the Joy-Con from the Nintendo Switch.
The authors noted that previously, insiders reported about the release of the Apple game console in 2020 or 2021. According to reporters, Apple apparently decided to abandon the early announcement due to the coronavirus pandemic and semiconductor shortages. The timing of the console’s release has not been announced, but the device should be shown in the coming years.
The report says that the new console will have a powerful ARM chip and work with the Arcade game library. The console will be positioned as a compact family device, so it will rather compete with the Nintendo Switch than the PlayStation or Xbox.
