MacRumors: Apple Vision Pro will have a processor from the MacBook Air
Apple chose a laptop chip as the main processor for the Vision Pro headset. This was reported by MacRumors.
Journalists referred to the disclosed report of insider Mark Gurman. According to the specialist, the Vision Pro will have an M2 chip installed, which has 8 processor cores and 10 graphics accelerator cores. This is the same chip that is installed in the improved version of MacBook Air laptops.
At the same time, the publication’s journalists noted that Apple could choose the M3 processor, which is equipped with advanced MacBook Pro computers. However, the company settled on a more affordable option, believing that the characteristics of the M2 correspond to augmented reality glasses.
Mark Gurman said that in Vision Pro the chip will be responsible for processing content, running the VisionOS operating system, executing computer vision algorithms and analyzing graphic content. However, other components will be responsible for performing some tasks: for example, the R1 processor is designed to process information coming from cameras, sensors and microphones.
The most affordable version of Vision Pro will cost $3,499, or about 307 thousand rubles. Sales of the gadget will begin in February.
Apple previously revealed a set of its augmented reality glasses, which will go on sale in February. Along with the headset, the company will offer a battery, charging cable, USB-C adapter, and accessories.
