Japanese airline All Nippon Airways has decided to return its 737-800 to Sapporo airport after discovering a crack in the cockpit window. Boeing’s problems. The US is grounding the 737 Max 9
Last week, the US Federal Aviation Administration ordered the grounding of some Boeing 737 Max 9 planes. The decision was made after the outer part of one of the planes fell off during an Alaska Airlines flight. The plane with 177 passengers and crew landed safely in Portland. The causes of the failure are unknown.
Alaska Airlines has decided to temporarily withdraw all 65 of its aircraft of this type. United Airlines, whose fleet includes 79 jets of this type, did the same. Boeing 737s are also in the fleet of LOT Polish Airlines. However, these are machines of a different version – Max 8.

Mariusz Piotrowski from the Fly For Free website said that the cause of the accident could have been faulty installation of the cap. He pointed out that the Boeing 737 – MAX 9 model is larger than the MAX 8 version and has the option of installing an emergency door in the rear part of the fuselage. The plane, owned by Alaska Airlines, only had a cap with a window in place. And it was this cap that fell off at an altitude of 4,800 meters above sea level.
The expert noted that the investigation would clarify whether it was installed incorrectly. He also added that the incident does not necessarily mean a systemic defect in this type of construction. In his opinion, there may have been an individual error during the production of a specific item. Mariusz Piotrowski pointed out that Alaska Airlines took delivery of the plane at the end of October last year, and the plane started regular flights in November. He emphasized that it was an almost new copy.
According to the expert, after Friday’s incident, Boeing may have financial and, above all, image problems. He recalled that in 2018, there were two tragic crashes of a related 737 model – the MAX 8, as a result of which all machines were grounded. The cause turned out to be faulty software. “At the same time, numerous irregularities in the certification of this model came to light. Boeing suffered financial and image losses as a result. Another incident may undermine the long-restored good image of the company and new aircraft models,” he concluded.
Mariusz Piotrowski added that the incident in the USA shows how important it is to follow safety procedures and pay attention to wearing seat belts. He pointed out that if the passengers of the unlucky flight from Portland were not wearing seat belts, the consequences of the crash could have been tragic.
