Difficult and painstaking was the development of an operation to rescue an injured person from a traffic accident. The man several police officers helped is Matt Reum, who was trapped in his truck for six days.

The rescue took place on December 26, 2023. Reum spent Christmas Eve and Christmas in his car.

A mass of scrap metal prevented him from moving.

This man fell into a river with his car. He fell from a bridge in Indiana, United States, Univisión Noticias reported.

While driving on I-94, the truck veered to the right of the highway barrier, went airborne, made several left turns and ended up under the bridge, they explained on Fox 32 Chicago.

Rescue: We got you, buddy

Univision News broadcast the footage of the shocking rescue on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. These were captured by police body cameras.

To free him, they said, a police officer cut pieces from the airbag that deployed when the accident occurred.

– “We have you, friend,” a police officer said to Reum.

According to Univisión, those involved in the procedure were surprised to find the injured man conscious.

-To what extent can you feel your legs?, they asked him.

-Left leg, above the knee. And I can move my toes on the right leg.

After hearing the response, the uniformed officers carefully removed the remains of the scrap metal into which the truck had been converted.

Reum told them that his left leg was trapped under the pillar and that his right leg was trapped between the wheelhouse.

-I can’t move in this direction (left).

“They all did their best to make it happen.” On the count of 1,2,3… They must have moved slowly.

The man’s moans can be heard. After securing him on the stretcher, he was taken to the emergency medical room.

Reum was flown from the scene to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment, Fox 32 Chicago reported.

One of his legs was amputated and he said he would learn to walk again, according to Univisión.

An “absolute miracle”: a fisherman falls into the ocean and is saved 23 hours later thanks to his watch

A day of fishing by two men saved him

How did they find Reum six days after the accident?

At Univisión they said that Nivardo de la Torre and Mario Alberto García planned to go fishing and when they arrived at the river they saw that there was a destroyed truck under the bridge. As they got closer, they saw the man.

“He was very trapped and said he couldn’t feel his limbs,” García said.

Today, Matt is grateful to the rescuers and the two men who found him. They all went to visit him at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Reum, 27, wrote on Facebook, according to Fox 32 Chicago: “While this in itself is a Christmas miracle, the generosity you have shown me has made my heart grow three sizes this year.”

On Instagram, he left this message on April 5, 2023: “One day you will tell your story of how you overcame what you went through and it will be someone else’s survival guide.”
