They all fought bravely, but there is only one winner. This is the most durable smartphone on the market

JerryRigEverything is a popular (8.33 million subscribers) American YouTuber known, among others, extreme smartphone tests. In addition to the standard check of the phones’ operation, the YouTuber subjects them to real torture, using, for example, a penknife and a gas burner. In 2023, he published almost 100 videos on the channel and managed to check even several dozen different devices. Of some of them, almost nothing remained after his tests.

Some time ago, JerryRigEverything published a video on the channel in which he summarized all the tests of 2023 and selected smartphones that stood out in several categories, including durability. However, the YouTuber started with the smartphone that was the easiest to repair, and the first place in this category was taken by Fairphone 5. It is a quite unusual (and very difficult to obtain) modular smartphone that was created with the possibility of self-repair in mind. The phone has a removable battery, and we can get to each component of Fairphone 5 with a regular screwdriver (even included in the box) and without having to struggle with glue. Using the manufacturer’s official spare parts, we can replace almost any smartphone element ourselves, including a broken camera or a broken screen.

However, the second place in this category was taken by Google Pixel 8 Pro, easily available in the USA and Western Europe. The worst performance in this category was the Asus ROG 7 Ultimate, which – after disassembly – could not be reassembled. Interestingly, the same model also took first place in the competition for the most innovative smartphone of the year, thanks to, among others, an unusual (and effective) heat dissipation system (it’s a gaming smartphone).

JerryRigEverything awarded the title of the most durable smartphone of 2023 to the Pixel 7a model, which – interestingly – is equipped with a plastic back. The YouTuber praised the fact that the smartphone consists of few elements that can be damaged (screen), and at the same time Pixel 7a is one of the devices that is extremely easy to repair. To be precise, however, it should be emphasized that we are talking about a typical smartphone, which does not belong to the so-called armored phones (which are not the most convenient for everyday use).

Therefore, Pixel 7a is an almost certain choice if we are looking for a device that will not be damaged after the first fall. Unfortunately, Google does not officially sell it in Poland, but we can import it ourselves from abroad (e.g. from Germany) or buy it from an intermediary (e.g. a Polish electronics store). It is also worth mentioning that the last place in the same category was taken by another device from Google – the foldable Pixel Fold. During the tests, the YouTuber was able to bend the edges of the phone with his bare hands, completely destroying the casing.
