“The website is unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience” – this is the message that greets us on the Central Statistical Office website. The website has been down for several dozen minutes, and its failure coincided with the publication of the latest inflation reading.
Inflation was very surprising. Few people expected such data
6.1 percent year to year – this was the inflation in December, according to the Central Statistical Office data. The number published on Friday is the so-called quick estimate, which may still be revised in the next reading (January 15). And that’s exactly what happened in October and November, when the final data turned out to be 0.1 percentage point higher than the flash estimate.
Reading 6.1 percent this is the lowest result since September 2021, i.e. in over two years. Of course, this is still a result far from the inflation target. NBP, i.e. 2.5 percent. On the other hand, 6.1 percent this is clearly lower than economists’ forecasts, the consensus of expectations was around 6.4-6.5%.
