The 2023 shutdown left a bitter taste in the mouth in Guajira, Colombia, where a person involved took his children, minors, from their grandmother’s house to take their lives, the investigation found.

On Sunday afternoon, December 31, 2023, the news put an end to the joy of those who were looking forward to the New Year’s hug.

The children were 3 and 7 years old. The family reported that the minors were kidnapped from their grandmother’s house, in the municipality of Fonseca, south of La Guajira, by their own father, whom they identified as Luis Fernando Mojica Zabala, El Tiempo reported.

The little brothers “were in the care of their grandmother and apparently Mojica expected her to be careless and took them away on Saturday afternoon, December 30.”

Other media outlets, such as Q’hubo Bogotá, reported that Mojica arrived at his ex-mother-in-law’s house on the afternoon of December 31. He wanted to take his children to spend “the whistles” with him, but the children’s grandmother said no.

Tragedy in the Colombian Guajira

Colombian media explained that as soon as the complaint was known, the Fonseca family police station activated the search route for the children early on Sunday, “notifying the Child and Adolescent Police, who immediately distributed posters to reveal the whereabouts of the boy to figure out girl.”

But the tragedy of the heinous crime was about to become known. The minors’ father was found hospitalized at a health center in the municipality of San Juan del Cesar.

Apparently “he was hit by an interdepartmental bus.” The man, El Universal noted, “after committing the heinous crime, attempted to commit suicide by jumping into a bus.”

Mojica was, always according to the press of the neighboring country, interrogated. They asked him about his children and he said “he knew nothing about them.”

The search did not stop and on the afternoon of December 31, “the bodies of the minors were found hanging from a tree, on the road leading from Fonseca to the municipality of Distraction.”

According to Infobae, “according to information from the judicial authorities, the children’s bodies had traces of violence.”

The children were identified as Luisa Fernanda Mojica De Aguas, 3 years old, and Luis Ángel Mojica de Agua, 7 years old, Vanguardia reported.

Why did he take his children?

Apparently, Vanguardia published, “the man had harassed his ex-wife and the children’s mother to return to him, but she no longer wanted to be by his side.”

The children’s mother, known as ‘La Nena’ De Aguas, was in Bogotá at the time of the tragedy, El Universal reports.

Luis Mojica, who is 26 years old, “suffered trauma to his chest and part of his jaws and face, and he also lost part of his teeth,” the aforementioned media described.

El Universal took a closer look at the man identified as a parricide and who is being guarded by police and military officers.

Mojica “is handcuffed to the hospital bed.” On Tuesday, January 2, they said that “they had already made the arrest in question in order to hand him over to the hearing to charge him with the crimes committed.” (JO)
