On January 1, Google faced a rather unexpected outage. The exchange rates of the main currencies against the Polish zloty in the American giant’s search engine skyrocketed, reaching PLN 4.90 (dollar) and PLN 5.40 (euro).
Weird problem with Google News on Android. Where is 2024?
It turns out that incorrect currency rate readings were not the only problem of the American giant. On New Year’s Eve, the Google Messages application, the default program for sending SMS/RCS messages in Android smartphones, refused to obey. Users reported that the app had gone crazy. She was supposed to be unable to display the date January 1, 2024 and subsequent days.
Traditional messaging worked fine, but some users experienced a problem when they tried to schedule an SMS for January 1 or later (the application allows you to schedule messages in advance). The application made it impossible to select any day after December 31, 2023 from the displayed calendar, and entering the date manually resulted in displaying a message saying “date not allowed” – reports
Ultimately, the only way to schedule sending a message in the default app was to select one of the predefined commands – e.g. “tomorrow at 8 am”. However, this prevented at least some users from planning to send SMS messages with wishes to family and friends, e.g. one minute after midnight on New Year’s Day.
Fortunately, now (January 2), the situation is back to normal and the application works without any problems. U Messages allows you to select any date in 2024 and beyond. Let’s hope the problem does not reappear in less than 12 months, i.e. on December 31 this year.
