PKP Intercity has just announced that it has signed a contract “at the end of the year” for the replacement of cash registers at railway stations. A total of 200 new cash registers were ordered, which are to appear systematically in subsequent cities. However, the process of replacing machines will be significantly spread over time.

The carrier boasts that the new terminals will be equipped with large displays for cashiers, and their operation will be tailored to their preferences. They will be able to alternately use the touch screen with their fingers or stylus and with a keyboard and mouse. PKP writes that this will translate into a significant improvement in the comfort of cashiers, because the old cash registers are equipped with small screens and can only be operated by touch.
Moreover, each terminal is equipped with an additional monitor for the customer, on which he or she will be able to observe the displayed information and independently select the preferred place from the diagram. This option has been available on PKP’s online transaction website and mobile application for some time. However, for customers who still prefer to buy tickets in a traditional way, the change is important.
PKP also boasts that each cash register will be equipped with an emergency power supply and will operate under the control of a new, more intuitive sales application, which will be prepared by the PKP Intercity programming team. This is to be another change that will facilitate the work of cashiers and speed up the purchase of tickets for travelers. However, it has not been stated how much the replacement will cost.
According to the order schedule, only the first 20 cash registers will be delivered to railway stations for now. They will be delivered in the first quarter of 2024. Another 60 units are to appear in the third quarter, and the remaining 120 sets in the “first months” of 2025. PKP does not reveal which cities and stations the new cash registers will reach first. The carrier adds that as part of the order, it has included the right to purchase another 95 units and may use it if necessary.
