An adjustment “for inflation” will apply to priority processing fees (immigration forms), the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

The I-765 form for a work permit is one of the forms that will see an increase, according to Diario Las Américas.

Why the increase in USCIS

The US agency explained on its website that the USCIS Stabilization Act established current priority processing rates and that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has the authority to adjust priority processing rates every two years.

After leaving these fees unchanged for three years after the law’s passage, DHS has now increased the priority processing fees charged by USCIS on all eligible forms and categories to reflect average inflation from June 2021 through June 2023 to be given, according to the consumer price index for All urban consumers.

The revenue generated by this adjustment, Diario Las Américas reported, will be used to improve priority processing services, make improvements to arbitration processes and respond to arbitration requirements, with the aim of reducing delays in the processing of benefit claims to decrease. USCIS also plans to use these revenues to fund arbitration and naturalization services.

What increase will USCIS forms have?

The adjustment increases certain priority processing fees from $1,500 to $1,685, $1,750 to $1,965 and $2,500 to $2,805.

When will the USCIS increase take effect?

The rate change will take effect on February 26, 2024.

USCIS notes that if they receive a Form I-907 postmarked on or after February 26, 2024 with the incorrect filing fee, they will reject the Form I-907 and refund the filing fee.

For entries sent by commercial carrier (such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL), the postmark date will be the date shown on the courier company’s receipt.
