9to5Mac: Apple has stopped sales of Apple Watch 9 and Ultra 2 in the US
Apple has completely stopped sales of new generation smartwatches in the United States. This was reported by 9to5Mac.
Media journalists noticed that Apple watches disappeared from sale after the ban by the US International Trade Commission (USITC), which became known in mid-December. On December 21, Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 disappeared from the Apple website, and on December 26, from stores in the United States.
According to the USITC decision, the corporation used other people’s patents when creating a sensor for determining the level of blood oxygen saturation. This feature is used in the brand’s watches released in the fall. 9to5Mac journalists clarified that US President Joe Biden could have vetoed the USITC decision before December 25, but obviously did not do so.
On the pages of the Apple online store it is clarified that the new watch is temporarily unavailable for purchase. Journalists noticed that instead of Apple Watch 9, the company began actively advertising Apple Watch SE, which does not have the function of determining blood oxygen levels. In a conversation with the authors of 9to5Mac, representatives of the IT giant said that they are doing everything possible to return smartwatches to sale.
Earlier, JP Morgan analysts said that Apple would lose about five billion dollars due to the ban on the sale of Apple Watch. The amount could be higher if the ban is not lifted in 2024.
