The few and brief references in the Gospel to Joseph’s attitude emphasize his unconditional obedience to all that God asked of him, despite being in difficulty and confusion.

It also glorifies Joseph’s role in the Biblical story, for although the news of the virgin’s pregnancy left him bewildered, he did not deny her or expose her to public ridicule.
