Certo: iPhone users began to be tracked using a third-party keyboard
Hackers have found a way to spy on Apple smartphone owners through third-party keyboards. This was reported by PhoneArena.
Specialists from the British company Certo Software learned about the problem. Experts found that cybercriminals were selling malicious applications to users who wanted to spy on their friends, acquaintances or other people. The programs made it possible to install a third-party keyboard on the iPhone, which saved all entered text data and sent it to interested parties.
Experts noted that Apple usually does not allow such applications into the App Store. Therefore, attackers install software through TestFlight, a service for developers designed to test applications and do not require them to be posted in the App Store. The cost of the service is $30, or about 2.7 thousand rubles.
The report’s authors noted that to install a malicious application, it is necessary to gain access to the user’s device that is being monitored. Experts advised iPhone owners to check their devices and remove all unknown third-party keyboards. You can find them in the “Keyboard” section of your iPhone settings.
Previously, Apple confirmed that authorities in some countries have requested data from the company about notifications that come to the iPhone. The notifications rarely contain sensitive information, but the spying party can gain some benefit from this data.
