Apple will not return the Touch ID fingerprint sensor to its smartphones
Apple has finally abandoned plans to return the Touch ID sensor to the iPhone. This was reported by MacRumors.
Media journalists cited industry sources who said Apple had disabled equipment at partner factories needed to produce Touch ID sensors. Insiders also found out that the company has no plans to return the fingerprint sensor to its devices.
The only current brand smartphone that has a fingerprint unlock function is the iPhone SE. However, the next generation of the device should receive the Face ID unlocking feature. Thus, Apple will completely abandon Touch ID.
At the same time, in the future the company may replace the face unlocking method with fingerprint unlocking technology, but in this case the fingerprint sensor will be located under the screen. The new technology may appear in smartphones in 2026.
At the end of September, insiders said that the fourth generation iPhone SE would come with Face ID instead of Touch ID. The available device will also have an OLED display, a 48-megapixel camera and a USB-C port.
