The Z family is the top model of the Korean brand’s phones. A few months ago, Samsung presented the fifth generation of this device and recently we at Doctor Tecno had the opportunity to test it for a few weeks. These are some of our impressions about this phone that promises to surprise many.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5’s design improvements include a thinner hinge and no separation between screens.

The phone has a unique elongated design: 15.4 cm high, 6.7 cm wide and 13.4 mm thick when closed. The phone has a slim design that may not suit everyone.

The new hinge design eliminates the gap between the screens and provides a solid feel, but the crease in the screen is still noticeable, although less noticeable than on the previous model.

The new Fold can be folded, leaving no room for dirt to get near the hinges. This change is noticeable, it is finally fully foldable. The Z Fold5 retains the IPX8 certification: it does not guarantee protection against dust despite the lack of a visible opening, but is certified against water

It has a high-quality matte screen with good clarity and 2K resolution.

The external screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate and HD resolution looks good despite being elongated

The outdoor screen has a 120Hz refresh rate and an HD resolution that looks quite good.

It packs a Snapdragon 8 generation 2 processor and 12GB of RAM that offers good performance. It has also improved the cooling system, ensuring that it does not overheat easily despite heavy use. Overall, the phone can perform various tasks and games without much effort.

It comes in several storage options ranging from 256 GB to one terabyte.

Software features and multitasking capabilities are the strengths of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. The device offers an advanced taskbar with shortcuts for easy access to applications. The multi-window feature allows for seamless multitasking and the ability to have up to four apps open at the same time

It has improved camera capabilities, although according to these tests it sometimes falls a bit short in low light.

The main sensor takes beautiful photos with high contrast, but lacks detail when zooming in and can generate noise in dark areas.

The device works well at controlling light and preserving colors in night photos.

main camera 50 megapixels. 1/1.56 inch sensor, f/1.8 aperture, 1.0 µm size for each pixel, OIS and Dual Pixel autofocus.
wide angle camera 12 megapixels. 1/3.06 inch sensor, f/2.2 aperture and 1.12 size for each pixel.
telephoto camera 10 megapixels. 1/3.94 inch sensor, f/2.4 aperture, 1.0 µm size for each pixel and OIS.
Front camera on the outer screen 10 megapixels. 1/3-inch sensor, f/2.2 aperture and 1.22 µm size for each pixel.
Front camera under the inner screen 16 megapixels. 1/3-inch sensor, f/1.8 aperture and 1 µm size for each pixel.

It has a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens, with very good photographic quality, although certain details may fail, such as sharpness in extreme zoom conditions or lack of light.

The rear camera records videos up to 4K 60 with good stabilization.

The photographic versatility is especially noticeable when taking self-portraits, as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold has three different ways to take selfies.

The front camera, located under a hole in the external screen, takes good quality photos in sufficient light, suffers from increasing darkness and tends to process the image in slight underexposure. The faces are very natural.

The camera under the flexible screen is not particularly suitable for taking selfies: the photos are somewhat diluted by the halo created by the panel. Moreover, the position is not exactly comfortable.

Samsung has added a third way for self-portraits, which appears highlighted in the top left corner of the camera interface: ‘Selfie’. The shooting position is not comfortable because you have to hold the phone open, but the result is worth it: the self-driving main camera cameras are of superior quality.

Video recording is very stable with the main camera even recording in the maximum resolution: 8K and 30 fps. The 4K resolution supports 60 fps for the main and telephoto cameras; with wide-angle option for 4K 30 fps and below. The recordings are smooth, they retain a high level of detail, the object tracking ensures that even children playing remain sharp and the mobile does not heat up excessively during recording.

Audio-wise, Fold5 sounds almost like a moderately powered Bluetooth speaker, with tremendous clarity even at maximum volume. This way there is no distortion in the high tones.

The battery life of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is surprisingly good. It has a power of 4,400 milliamps, comparable to the previous generation, and a charging speed of 25 watts. Supports wireless charging and reversible wireless charging.

The fingerprint reader on the side button works well, as does facial recognition with an external display camera.
