Play will disable another UPC Polska service. There is little time left to take advantage of it

Play closes another UPC Polska service. This is the UPC Connect application, which allows customers to easily control their home Wi-Fi network. A few days ago, the network decided to disable the WI-Free service, which allows for free connection to the Internet.

Play has decided to disable the UPC Connect application, intended for customers of the former UPC Polska – informs. The network explains that the functions of the app will be moved to another place, but using them will be much less convenient than before.

UPC Connect’s days are numbered. Play will disable the application at the end of the year

The portal reports that customers of the former UPC Polska (currently operating under the Play brand) are already informed about changes in electronic and postal correspondence. UPC Connect is a useful application for smartphones and tablets with Android and iOS that allows you to conveniently control your home Wi-Fi network. The program allows you to check which devices are currently using the router wired or wirelessly, enable and block Wi-Fi for specific devices, and change the network name and password.

The Play network confirmed in an interview with the website that the application will only work until the end of this year. The operator adds that closing this service does not allow customers to terminate the contract with impunity before the end of its duration. “The decision to disable the UPC Connect application as of December 31, 2023 is dictated by technological changes that apply to the services and devices we offer, as well as the limitation of cooperation with the supplier that provides us with this service. UPC Connect was a free application, and its disabling does not affect the remaining scope of the terms of subscriber contracts,” Play wrote in a comment for Wirtualnemedia.pl.

The operator adds that the ability to change router settings will not be completely disabled, but only moved to another place. From January, these settings will be available in a web browser at http://192.168.0.1 (the password is on the sticker under the modem), explains the portal. However, this will be a much less convenient solution than a dedicated smartphone application.

Not only UPC Connect. Another service will be disabled sooner

This week it was also announced that the WI-Free service has been disabled, which allows UPC Polska subscribers to use the Internet outside the home, even if they do not have an appropriate data limit in their mobile subscription. The user only needs to be within the range of UPC’s Wi-Fi network to use the network and save mobile data. WI-Free will only work until December 15 this year. (We wrote more about this in the text below).

The UPC Polska brand was changed in September this year. complete rebranding and now operates entirely under the name Play (both brands have belonged to the P4 operator for a long time). Customers of the now defunct network are Play customers, but their contracts concluded before the rebranding remained valid and cannot be terminated prematurely with impunity.
