The Provincial Police Headquarters in Gorzów Wielkopolski warns against another wave of fake cryptocurrency experts who encourage Poles to “invest”. a man who believed in a fraudulent advertisement and lost as much as PLN 250,000. zlotys.
He reported himself to the fraudsters. He wanted to invest in cryptocurrencies
The man, who described the case to the police himself after the fact, noticed an advertisement on social media for an alleged website that allows you to quickly earn a lot of money. A resident of the Krosno poviat (Krosno Odrzańskie, Lubuskie Voivodeship) created an account on this website and provided data, and soon afterwards he was contacted via instant messenger by an alleged investment expert who explained how the website worked.
The injured party allegedly bought the cryptocurrency by giving the money to an expert who collected several percent of the profit from each transaction. The man accepted the commission amount and transferred the first tranche of money. Interestingly, this investment paid off very well because – as the police write – he gained a “significant amount” from it. In this way, the fraudster gained the trust of his victim.
Shortly afterwards, the “expert” offered the lucky resident of the Krosno district another investment, this time for a much higher amount – PLN 140,000. zlotys. The man didn’t have that kind of money, but the “advisor” found a solution. He recommended installing a “specific application” on your smartphone and taking out an instant loan. After a while, the deceived man had over PLN 138,000 in his bank account, which he was missing. However, he quickly transferred these funds to the account of an alleged expert who was supposed to buy the cryptocurrency on his behalf.
After a few days, the expert contacted me again. And he brought great news again. He informed the defrauded person that he had made a large profit and instructed him to monitor the constantly growing amount on the website where the man had previously opened an account. He also persuaded him to take out another loan for PLN 40,000. zlotys. In return, he promised 125,000. dollars of profit. And that wasn’t the end of the story.
Only when it came to paying the first part of the earned amount, the man realized that he could be cheated. The fraudster promised a payment of PLN 90,000. dollars, but stated that first a fee of several percent of this amount should be transferred to the indicated bank account.
Ultimately, the resident of the Lubuskie Voivodeship lost a total of PLN 250,000 on “investments”. zlotys. This is the amount for which he would be able to buy a small apartment in a smaller city.
The officers warn against similar fraud attempts. Most often, they refer to the desire for quick profit. Officers recommend that you always apply the principle of limited trust, remember to check and ask about transaction details, and never click on suspicious links or install unknown financial applications.
