The first laptops awarded under the government program have already been distributed to fourth-graders. The remaining students are to receive the equipment assigned to them by the end of December this year at the latest. When the program started, problems related to its implementation appeared. As the Ministry of Digitization reported via social media, the police have already thwarted the first attempt to sell a laptop with the Polish emblem.
A laptop from the “Laptop for a student” program at a pawn shop. The police intervened
“In one of the pawnshops, Poland seized a laptop, which was probably donated as part of the ‘Laptop for a student’ program. The protection in the form of an engraving visible on the casing meant that information about the illegal sale attempt was quickly reported to the appropriate services, and the equipment was only available for sale a few hours,” reads the message published on website X by the Ministry of Digitization.
The officials also recalled that since the program’s launch, activities have been carried out regularly on the market and on websites to prevent the devices received by students from being sold.
Can government laptops be sold? Key contract and holding period
The issue of granting laptops is regulated by the Support for the Development of Digital Competences of Students and Teachers, which was signed by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, on July 13 this year. It assumes that new learning equipment is provided to all students who start learning in the fourth grade of primary school every year. You can take ownership of the device by concluding an agreement between the school and the parent. However, it does not allow the sale of equipment for the first five years after its purchase.
