Google News is an application created in 2002 by a company from Mountain View that aggregates the most interesting content from Internet portals and other popular websites. As it developed, the creators added new services to it. One of them was the possibility of paid subscription to digital versions of magazines.
And this service will be closed on December 18, i.e. a week before Christmas. Google does not explain this decision, but it can be safely assumed that the reason was the lack of interest on the part of users.
On December 18, 2023, we’re discontinuing support for magazines on Google News, which means that if you previously purchased or subscribed to magazines, access to your magazine library from the Google News app or news.google.com will be removed.
– explains the company in a statement.
It is also worth adding that magazine publishers who placed them on the Google platform had to share part of the profits with the giant. Today, many of them probably prefer to distribute them on their own or use platforms competing with Google News.
Google explains that users who used the shutdown service should download the magazines they purchased to their computer’s disk (or to the cloud) before December 18. However, the company warns that it will be impossible to export those warehouses that contained interactive components. In the latter case, Google will refund the buyers’ money.
Be careful, Google may delete your account. How to avoid this? There’s not much time left
Google is preparing for a major operation in which the company will delete hundreds of thousands of inactive user accounts. If you have important documents or photos on your account, but you haven’t logged in for a long time, be sure not to lose access to it.
The great “cleaning” will begin on December 1, 2023, i.e. in just two weeks. As part of the operation, accounts that have not shown any activity for the last two years will be deleted.
Google has started sending inactive users emails informing them exactly when their accounts will be deleted. The problem is that if someone hasn’t used a Google account for a long time, they probably haven’t logged in to their Gmail either – so they may not find out about its deletion.
Fortunately, saving your account is not particularly difficult. All we need to do is log in to Gmail or another Google service – e.g. share a photo via Google Photos, use the Google search engine (when the account is logged in), download an application or watch a video on YouTube.
Importantly, if we use an Android smartphone on a daily basis, the company will not delete the Google account associated with this device, even if we have not logged in to the company’s services for a long time. The mere use of Android is already a signal to Google that our account is still active.
