Last Wednesday, Internet users started reporting via Chinese social media that many flights to and from the southwestern metropolis of Chengdu operated by China Southren Airlines are available in the application for 10, 20 or 30 yuan (i.e. from PLN 5 to PLN 17). In addition to this price, buyers had to pay an additional 110 yuan (approx. PLN 62) for airport and fuel fees.
One Internet user boasted about a screenshot showing a plane ticket from Chengdu to Beijing for 10 yuan, when it normally costs between 400 and 500 yuan, or about PLN 284. Airline customers reported that such cheap tickets were available in the application for about two hours and whoever took advantage of them gained a cheap trip.
China Southern Airlines is the largest airline in Asia and was established by the Chinese government in 1988. The airline’s headquarters is in Guangzhou. As of December 2022, more than 890 passenger and cargo aircraft are flying for China Southern Airlines, including Boeing 787, 777, 737 series, Airbus A350, A330, A320, COMAC ARJ21 and other models. Chinese airlines carried 62.64 million passengers last year.
