Android has disabled the function of notifications about contact with coronavirus patients
A function related to the prevention of coronavirus has been disabled in Android smartphones. This was reported by 9to5Google.
Media journalists examined the latest version of Android and found out that the “Contact Notification” function is disabled in the OS. This option worked via Bluetooth and informed users that they might have been in contact with someone sick with COVID-19. In turn, infected users could mark their status in the application.
The authors of the publication found out that the function is related to the Google Play settings and its operation has been discontinued on all Android smartphones with Google services. Experts have noticed that users can no longer activate Contact Notification manually.
The function appeared on Android smartphones in May 2020, it was launched jointly with Apple and was available for iPhone users. According to journalists, the coronavirus pandemic is over, although the disease itself remains. The authors also noted that in the United States, the “Exposure Notification” option actually stopped working in many states back in the spring.
At the end of October, it became known that Google will check smartphone applications using AI. The increase in security is driven by the rise of polymorphic malware—virus programs that are difficult to detect.
