ArsTechnica: iLeakage vulnerability will allow iPhone, iPad or Mac data to be exposed
Security experts have described a method for hacking any Apple gadget – smartphone, tablet or computer. This was reported by ArsTechnica.
Experts called the new type of vulnerability iLeakage. It is based on a bug in Apple’s WebKit engine, which powers the Safari browser on the Mac and all mobile browsers on the iPhone and iPad. To hack, an attacker must visit a special website and then open the target resource – a YouTube account or Gmail – in another browser window.
Through some manipulations, an attacker can gain access to hidden data. For example, open passwords saved in the browser, open email correspondence, or watch a list of videos that the user has saved in his YouTube account.
According to experts, the hacking procedure takes about five to six minutes. Apple has not yet released an update to fix the vulnerability. However, the researchers noted that to hack, the attacker must have certain skills and gain access to the user’s device that he wants to compromise.
In May, the American company Apple released an iOS update that fixed dozens of dangerous vulnerabilities. According to the corporation’s experts, three out of 40 vulnerabilities are actively exploited by hackers.
