Microsoft admits abandoning Windows Phone was a mistake

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella regretted that the company closed the Windows Phone project

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella regretted that his company stopped developing the mobile phone project. The head of the corporation spoke about this in an interview with Insider.

“The decision that I think a lot of people are talking about is one of the hardest decisions I made when I became CEO,” Nadella said, admitting that killing the Windows Phone project was a mistake. According to the entrepreneur, the company had to continue to develop the direction of mobile phones and operating systems.

Nadella noted that the corporation had made several serious mistakes at one time. “Looking back, I think there could have been ways to make it work,” the executive said.

According to journalists, Nadella became the third Microsoft executive to call the closure of the Windows Phone project a mistake. Before him, similar statements were made by the founder of the corporation, Bill Gates, and the former head of the company, Steve Ballmer. At the same time, Ballmer initially ridiculed the iPhone and other similar devices, emphasizing that a device without a push-button keyboard would not be of interest to the business audience.

At the end of August, journalists from The Register discovered a patent for a folding smartphone from the American company Microsoft. The document says that the new device is capable of folding 360 degrees.
