Foldables are in fashion on the smartphone market. Today, virtually every major brand wants to offer a device with a closed screen. The race was started by Samsung (Galaxy Z Fold), and then other manufacturers joined it – Huawei, OPPO, Realme and Motorola.
Now the group of foldable smartphones is expanding with another representative. It is the recently presented OnePlus Open model. A disclaimer here: Just a moment ago, another foldable device was premiered – OPPO Find N3. In terms of design and technical specifications, it looks exactly the same as OnePlus Open. How is this possible?
OnePlus and OPPO are sister brands that currently have the same owner. For reasons known only to himself, he decided to release the same device under two different brands. OPPO Find N3 will be released primarily on Asian markets, and its “twin” OnePlus Open is expected to conquer the world – including Poland.
OnePlus Open officially. One of the most beautiful foldables on the market
OnePlus Open is definitely eye-catching. The device is distinguished by its minimalist design and – for a foldable device – quite compact dimensions. It weighs 245 grams and its housing is only 13 mm thick. Therefore, it is lighter and slimmer than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.
As for the hinge that connects both parts of the screen, the manufacturer used the Flexion Hinge technology, which is intended to ensure less visible refraction on the screen. This is about the infamous “fold”, one of the biggest problems with foldable smartphones.
I spent only a few hours with the OnePlus smartphone, but I must admit that the bend is actually less visible,
What the OnePlus device has in common with the Honor model is the lack of a gap, typical for some foldables, that appears after folding the screen. In the case of OnePlus Open, both parts fit perfectly together, so the thickness of the case is the same everywhere.
Speaking of the screen, we are dealing with a 7.82-inch AMOLED LTPO 3.0 display with a resolution of 2440 × 2268 and a pixel density of 426 PPI. This screen boasts a peak brightness of 2,800 nits and supports Dolby Vision technology.
As befits an organic OLED panel, the display looks virtually flawless, providing deep blacks, infinite contrast and excellent color reproduction.
The 6.31-inch external screen is also an AMOLED LTPO panel with a refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz (and also provides a maximum brightness of 2,800 nits). Its resolution is 2484 x 1116. The display is covered with Ceramic Guard glass (the manufacturer’s original solution), which is to be 20 percent smaller. more durable than standard Gorilla Glass Victus.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and a camera with a new Sony sensor
The heart of OnePlus Open is Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is one of the most powerful mobile systems on the market. We also have 16 GB of RAM (LPDDR5X) and 512 GB of memory (UFS 4.0) for user data. Thanks to the X70 chipset, the smartphone offers support for 5G technology.
As for the camera, there are three lenses hidden under the massive round island located on the back of the device:
- main 48 MP with Sony LYT-T808 sensor and optical image stabilization;
- 64 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and OIS;
- 48MP ultra-wide angle.
The manufacturer boasts that the Sony LYT-T808 sensor used in the main camera is the first matrix of this type that offers Pixel Stacking technology, which ensures lower noise levels in photos taken in poorer lighting conditions.
OnePlus Open has a 4805 mAh battery with SUPER VOOC fast charging with a power of up to 67 W. The smartphone from 0 to 37 percent. We can charge it in 10 minutes and to 100 percent in 42 minutes.
OnePlus Open runs Android 13 with OxygenOS 13.2. One of the most interesting solutions that allows you to use the entire surface of the foldable screen is the Open Canvas function – it allows you to work on three applications at the same time, which can be displayed in almost any proportions.
The Taskbar is also useful for multitasking, i.e. a bottom bar with shortcuts that allows us to easily switch between applications and individual views.
Price? It’s not cheap
OnePlus Open will be available in Poland for open sale, as well as on the T-Mobile network. The device was priced at PLN 8,999 – so it is as absurdly expensive as the competition’s foldable smartphones. If someone decides to spend so much money on the purchase of this equipment, they will also receive OnePlus Buds Pro 2 headphones for free.
