The conflict between Israel and the Islamist militia Hamas does not seem to have such a quick solution and in the meantime the number of victims continues to increase.

The new escalation of violence began on October 7 when Hamas infiltrated the southern border, killing several festival goers and taking hostages.

The raid left more than 1,400 people dead on the Israeli side, and retaliatory attacks left more than 3,000 dead in the Gaza Strip, mainly civilians on both sides.

The last large-scale event to take place in Gaza was the attack on a hospital that left at least 500 dead. It was learned that the rocket that hit was not Israeli.

Pope Francis condemned the situation and described the situation in Gaza as desperate on Wednesday. He has asked to do everything possible to prevent “a humanitarian catastrophe”.

“War does not solve problems: it only sows death and destruction, increases hatred and multiplies revenge. War suppresses the future. I urge believers to choose only one side in this conflict: that of peace. Not just with words, but with prayer,” it was indicated.

The Pope called for a day of fasting, penance and prayer for peace on October 27 and invited people of other faiths to join, as well as those concerned with the cause of world peace.

The request comes amid Israel’s approval for the shipment of “food, water and medicine” from Egypt to the Gaza Strip.

“At the request of the president [de EEUU, Joe] Biden, Israel will not stop sending humanitarian aid through Egypt,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said, adding that the authorization will be valid “as long as supplies do not reach Hamas,” which rules Gaza. (JO)
