Apple made Siri’s life miserable with one decision. He can no longer use his own name

In the latest version of iOS 17, Apple has changed the way we invoke the voice assistant on the iPhone. A certain Siri from Scotland actually had to change her name. Alexa from the US had a similar problem.

The case of Siri Price, who lives in Scotland, was described by the British. In an interview with the newspaper, the woman told how much Apple’s recent decision had made her life miserable. All because her name coincides with the name of Apple’s voice assistant.

Siri had to change her name. All because of Apple’s decision

Siri’s problems began a few years ago when Apple released its intelligent assistant Siri on iPhones. For many years, the program was invoked with the slogan “Hey Siri”. Hearing this phrase, the assistant activates, and the iPhone informs you with a sound that it is listening to the surroundings, waiting for the command.

As Siri Price said, whenever someone greeted her, all iPhones in the immediate vicinity would make an irritating sound and go into listening mode. In some cases, the virtual Siri also responded to queries that were not directed to her. However, we could live with the problem, because family and friends quickly learned not to say “Hey Siri” as a greeting.

The problem is that with the release of the iOS 17 operating system, Apple changed the command and now to activate the voice assistant you just need to say “Siri”. This means that whenever a Scottish woman says her name or says hello to anyone, all nearby iPhones activate, eavesdrop on the conversation and answer random questions.

This became extremely burdensome for Siri because – as she explains – she works at a gym and is in constant contact with many people who call her by her name. What’s more, she uses an iPhone herself, which also asks for a command every time someone says her name. It’s gotten to the point where Siri can’t use her name today, and instead uses the nickname “Siz”, invented to avoid the problem.

Considering that Siri is a popular female name, Apple smartphones after the last update may have made the lives of a large number of women named Siri miserable. As “The Sun” reminds, in February, American Alexa Seary complained about a similar problem. Her name activates all devices with Amazon’s voice assistant, which is called Alexa. In the case of the Google voice assistant, the matter is definitely less troublesome. To invoke this company’s tool, you need the phrase “Hey Google” or “OK Google.”
