This Friday, the Norwegian Nobel Institute will announce who will receive the prize. Nobel Prize of Peace this year.

It is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the world that can be received and according to the statute this corresponds to the person who has “worked more or better for the fraternization of peoples and for the abolition or reduction of standing armies, as well as what concerns the formation and dissemination of peace congresses.”

This year, 351 candidates have registered, of which 259 individuals and 92 organizations. However, it is a mystery to know who has been nominated and who has done so, at least for fifty years. The elections are led by a committee chosen by the Norwegian Parliament.

There are several institutions that project the possible winners and sometimes they are right. For example, the Oslo Peace Research Institute (Prio), through director Henrik Urdal, has published a list of possible finalists.

This is Urdal’s fifth list and it was clarified that he has not made any nominations and that these are not affiliated with the Nobel Institute or the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

To create the list, professional evaluations were conducted in this tradition. Committee members can also add their own nominees after their deadline.

“Every year, the director of PRIO presents his own list of candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize. “The director provides his opinion on the most valuable potential winners, based on his independent evaluation,” it explained.

These are the possible ones for this year

This list includes an Ecuadorian, Juan Carlos Jintiach, who is said to be an indigenous leader whose work is to raise the voice of the people and is also an active member of indigenous rights groups.

“Jintiach has worked to connect the concerns of communities on the ground with global political arenas and has served as a voice to generate consensus among these actors,” he said.

In a text message sent to the portal Infobae He points out that he wants his story to be an example of what people lead and that this nomination is for them.

“The Nobel Peace Prize should go to all the indigenous peoples of the world who, in everyday life and from the depths of the richest ecosystems, call us to a world where humans and nature coexist in harmony,” he added.

Due to the war going on between Ukraine and Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is one of the favorites in public opinion to be designated with the award, although specialists have ruled out this option.

Both climate and indigenous rights could be the approaches the commission should identify as the winner, say experts consulted by cnn. (JO)
