Turn off your phone and TV, wrap them in foil, turn off Wi-Fi on October 4. What is it about? About conspiracy theories

More and more people, even in Poland, are being warned about the test of the threat notification system, which will take place in… the United States. However, some people encourage us to turn off phones, TVs and radios and disconnect Wi-Fi everywhere. The reason is conspiracy theories that spread on social media.

Videos and messages have begun to appear on social media, also in Poland, warning about “something” that is going to happen on October 4, 2023. “October 4, 2023 only and wrap them in aluminum foil. Unfortunately, I can’t say anything more. May God protect you all” – we can read in one of the messages that has been circulating on the Polish Internet for several days. Users who do not in any way explain the reasons for their appeal are advised to turn off electronic devices or even wrap them in aluminum foil. What is the reason for these messages to appear?

What will happen on October 4? In the USA, they are testing the system, but users believe in conspiracy theories

It turns out that this is a conspiracy theory that came to us from the United States, where a test of the alarm system (similar to the Polish RCB alert) will take place that day. That day at 2:20 p.m. (8:20 p.m. in Poland) The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct All-American event and threat notification test. Each telephone in the USA logged into the network will then receive an SMS with the content of an alarm message, which will inform about the test progress and not to take any action in connection with it.

In addition, any TV set that is turned on when the signal is emitted will also display or broadcast the message. The phones will also emit an alarm sound, so that blind and visually impaired people will also be notified. The test is to check the operation of the system and is being carried out for the third time in history. The US media appeals for calm and assures that there is no reason to panic.

However, some social media users think otherwise. On X you can find entries of people who are sure that the signal sent to their phone could lead to death. Others believe that the signal emitted from the US activates the virus or chip that was administered in .

Does it make sense to warn yourself about “something” on October 4?

It is worth emphasizing that experts dealing with ICT systems agree – there is no threat of American tests either in the USA or in Poland. Alarm signal tests are not uncommon. Recently, similar messages were tested in Germany – but then social media did not react with a wave of conspiracy theories.

To avoid disinformation, it is worth verifying the information we find on the Internet, especially in social media. If the waves from mobile phones, which we use every day to send text messages, and in the same way these waves would be used in the alarm system test, were dangerous to health or life, we would have felt the negative effects of using mobile phones a long time ago. If such messages were dangerous, this would also apply to Polish RCB alerts.
