US forces said today they have captured “a leader” of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization. in a helicopter attack on September 28 in northern Syria, the US Armed Forces Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.
According to the note, the captured IS leader was identified as Mamduh Ibrahim al Haji Shaykha facilitator of the terrorist group in the north of the country.
According to CENTCOM spokesperson Lt. Col. Troy Garlock: “no civilians were injured or killed during this operation,” which “demonstrates U.S. forces’ commitment to the lasting defeat of IS.”
Last week, CENTCOM said it had captured Abu Halil al-Fadania head of IS Facilitation and Operations in Syria, who was said to maintain relations with the terrorist organization’s entire network in the region during a raid on September 23.
On that occasion, US Central Command forces said in a note that the capture of Islamic State leaders such as Al Fadani increases their “ability to locate, engage and eliminate terrorists on the battlefield.”
The jihadist formation was territorially defeated in Syria in March 2019but still has active cells in several parts of the country, especially in the vast central desert of Badia.
