Employees of the French branch of the American company Nvidia were very surprised when officials from the French competition authority suddenly entered the offices. The office raided the company in connection with an investigation it is conducting.
The French confirmed the raid. “Checks at dawn do not assume any violation of the law”
The raid, which was reported early Thursday morning earlier this week (the specific day was not disclosed, however). As the daily writes, officials entered the offices with the suspicion that the American company had “engaged in anti-competitive practices.”
It was the first inspection of this type, since Nvidia became the world’s largest manufacturer of chips for artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
The French competition authority confirmed it carried out a “dawn inspection” this week after obtaining a court order. He also stated that the reason for the inspection was “the suspected use of anti-competitive practices in the graphics card sector”, but also emphasized that such raids do not mean that the inspected entity actually broke the regulations.
Such dawn inspections do not presuppose any violation of law attributable to the company engaged in the alleged practices
– wrote the officials. The statement added that only a full investigation could clarify whether any regulations had been broken. Importantly, the office’s announcement did not mention Nvidia by name.
Nvidia is growing like a weed. All because of artificial intelligence
Nvidia has been recording excellent results in recent months. All because of the huge demand for computing systems for artificial intelligence solutions. Several large companies have recently placed orders for many thousands of very high-end chips, including: Microsoft and OpenAI.
