announced that at its headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany, on the night from Wednesday to Thursday there was an unspecified “failure of network components in the IT network” – On Thursday around 7:00 a.m. the company had already dealt with the problem
Failure at Volkswagen factories
The company reported that the failure affected German plants in Emden, Osnabrueck, Hannover, Dresden and Zwickau as well as component factories in Braunschweig, Kassel, Chemnitz and Salzgitter. The failure affected factories of all Volkswagen brands that belong to the group, including Porsche and Audi. An Audi spokesman confirmed that their factory was also down.
Volkswagen reported overnight that it was most likely not an external attack. These reports were repeated in the morning. The systems were recovered by restarting the affected systems. Nevertheless, during the transition phase, individual IT systems may still be disrupted by failures.
Volkswagen is facing problems
This is another problem for Volkswagen. Another is reduced demand for batteries for electric cars, which may lead to the withdrawal of the long-traditioned three-shift work at the Zwickau factory, reports Reuters.
The daily’s informant claims that incoming orders in Germany “are well below the target set for this year.” This applies to all Volkswagen models with battery electric drive, i.e. ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.Buzz. A VW spokeswoman confirmed in response to the daily’s question that the company, like other manufacturers, is currently observing a “general reluctance to buy.”
“Handelsblatt” cites data from the automotive industry portal Marklines, which shows that from January to May, VW produced 97,000 of its ID models in Europe, but sold only 73,000. Demand for some models has dropped to zero. According to car dealers, the reason is the decline in subsidies for the purchase of electric cars.
