At least a hundred people were killed and about 150 were injured and burned in a fire in a hall where a wedding was celebrated in Nineveh, Iraq, according to information from that province’s Ministry of Health.
Initial reports indicate that the incident occurred when fireworks were set off in the middle of the celebration in a room where flammable materials were found.
“Preliminary information indicates that fireworks were used during a wedding, causing a fire in the venue‘, the civil protection authorities said in a statement published by the Arab network Al Jazeera.
“The fire caused parts of the roof to collapse. due to the use of highly flammable and cheap building materials,” the statement said.
Al Jazeera detailed that Iraqi federal authorities and those of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region Ambulances and medical teams were sent to the scene of the fire.
