After facing intense criticism for ensuring mass migration “will destroy” New York City, the mayor of the Big Apple announced “that adult immigrant stays in city-run shelters will be limited to 30 days.”
The length of stay, explains the Diario de NY, “that will be granted to migrants housed in shelters managed by the City of New York will be reduced by half, that is, from 60 days to 30 days .”
The message is sent to try to “stop the saturation registered in the centers that welcome immigrants.”
El Tiempo Latino indicated that Adams, who has the support of New York Governor Kathy Hochul, agreed to the measure “to relieve pressure on his foster care system.”
New York has declared itself overwhelmed by the more than 110,000 migrants who have arrived in the city, EFE reported.
With Adams’ announcement, the press, such as Noticias Telemundo, emphasizes that “a quarter of the immigrants hosted in the reception centers in that city are citizens of Venezuela.”
What does the massive issuing of work permits mean for Venezuelans and what does the immigration crisis in New York have to do with it?

Adams, criticized for promoting immigrants
For Adams, quoted in the NY Journal, the measure is necessary and “another step in our efforts to help asylum seekers take the next step on their journey.”
We want to be clear. We can’t push the envelope because this won’t take care of all the immigrants and asylum seekers in the city.
Eric Adams, Mayor of New York
Human rights groups, according to Telemundo, described the reform of limiting stays in shelters for adult migrants to 30 days as “unnecessary and cruel to the more than 60,000 immigrants in charge of the city.”
The city, EFE reported on September 7, “has had to juggle housing the newcomers whom it has placed in hotels, in tents on football fields, old schools and gyms and is evaluating other alternatives in light of the constant flow coming into the for the past three weeks it has been about 3,000 people every week.
I’ve never had a problem in my life that I couldn’t see an end to, but I don’t see an end to this.
