The first vice president of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, believes that the United Nations (UN) is an “instrument” of the United States, following the latest report denouncing a worsening persecution of the opposition in Venezuela.

“The UN solves nothing. He doesn’t make decisions. It does not respect the decisions of the National United Nations itself. The point is that they are scenarios and we will not leave them alone.the Chavista leader said, referring to the Venezuelan participation in the recent annual meeting of the UN Assembly.

“At this point, as Commander Chávez said, there is no point if the UN does not change its raison d’etre or return to its original raison d’être, to its roots (…). Right now it is a tool for the United States to put pressure on countries it is considering“, considered Cabello, according to the official portal Latest news.

Cabello called for a “restructuring” of the UN to uphold “the fundamental principles” of the United Nations Charter. Until then, asserting the rights of sovereign countries and peoples before the international body is “a big waste of time,” he said. “The UN General Assembly was held. If you ask me, it’s a big waste of time. “It’s my personal opinion,” he explained.
