The iPhone has protection against poor-quality repairs

Apple has added a feature for detecting non-original parts to its smartphones. This is reported by the Gizmodo edition.

A new option appeared in the beta version of iOS 15.2. If a non-original display, battery or camera is installed in the iPhone, a notification will appear in the settings. In the section on the history of the device repair, you can check the originality of the components. According to journalists, this will help protect buyers from purchasing low-quality second-hand iPhones from users who send their devices to unauthorized service shops for repair.

As specified in Apple, the function works on all smartphones of the latest generations. On the second generation iPhone XR, XS, XS Max and SE, iOS can verify the originality of the battery. On iPhone 11 and newer devices, the OS will also show display information. Users of phones of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 families will be able to find out about the status of the camera.

At the same time, the new function will not affect the operation of the device in any way. The authors noted that Apple will not block the operation of non-original components. Also, the “Unknown part” status will appear if the wizard installs the original display or the battery incorrectly.

In late November, Apple announced it was launching a home repair program for iPhone and Mac. The company will sell original parts to users and issue free repair instructions.
