The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in Florida (United States) announced last Friday that it responded to a report of a body seen in the river channel.
They were surprised when a four-meter crocodile was spotted next to the remains.
Together with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, they decided to “humanely” euthanize the animal.
“Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team also recovered the remains of a deceased adult from the waterway,” a statement said.
Several residents shared videos of the animal. In statements to local media, they said they saw the animal grab the torso part of a body and pull it underwater.
“I thought it would be in the swamps and stuff, but it was a big alligator right here in our water,” Jamarcus Bullard said. WFLA.
Pinellas County deputies received calls of a dead Florida man floating around, so their dive team went in and recovered him.
They also discovered a 13-foot alligator chilling nearby.

This is one of the largest alligators seen in Florida since 1977.
“The medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. When the identification of the deceased has been established and the next of kin have been informed, this will be communicated to the media via an alert,” the police said. (JO)
