A sound they first doubted alerted them. Shortly afterwards, some neighbors confirmed that what they heard was crying: a baby’s cry and not a cat’s.
The child was left in a car that neighbors said was parked around 2 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023.
The situation occurred in Tunja, more than 110 kilometers northeast of Bogotá, specifically in the Eva district.
Woman jumps with a stroller into a street that has turned into a river and a ‘hero’ saves the child, but she runs away: what is she looking for, the mobile phone or a shoe?
And the baby’s mother or father?
Four hours later, the neighbors alerted the police officers and a committee went to the street where the car was parked.
A woman from the community had done what she could until then: ask some families to find out who owned the car and of course who the parents of the minor were. The vehicle was a Chevrolet Corsa Evolution, Semana described.
When police arrived, they also heard “desperate crying” and broke a window of the car to save the baby, Noticias Caracol reported. The question in the Eva neighborhood was who could have ‘forgotten’ the girl in the car.
“We tried to locate the owners of this vehicle or the parents or the mother of this baby in the area, but it was not possible,” said Colonel Marcos Wilson Forero, commander of the Tunja Metropolitan Police, according to Noticias Caracol.

The mother’s explanation
Colombian police indicated that the minor’s mother appeared “hours later,” Noticias Caracol published. Forero himself took the floor again to express the woman’s answer.
“He stated that they arrived in that area to visit and due to the cold weather they did not remove the girl from the vehicle and they subsequently fell asleep,” he said.
However, Semana’s version is broader: “The woman said that she arrived from the village of La Germania in the early morning hours, because she was chatting with a friend and they decided to enter the house to continue the evening, but Because it was so late that he “regretted” getting the girl out of the car, he let her sleep while she shared with her friend, but she fell asleep.
According to some people, the baby’s mother said, “Why didn’t they make more noise before taking the girl and the car to wake me up?”

What happened to the baby
After noticing during the inspection of the car that it contained traces of alcoholic beverages, police reported that the baby had been taken to a nursing home.
The minor who was rescued thanks to the community showed signs of dehydration, authorities said.
