Samsung: smartphones of the future will have 200-megapixel telephoto lenses

Samsung Corporation described the importance of high-resolution telephoto lenses in smartphones. This was reported by GSM Arena with reference to the company’s materials.

According to representatives of the Korean IT giant, the telephoto lens should become the second main camera of the smartphone – after the classic wide-angle sensor. Samsung engineers named ISOCELL HP2 and HP3 telephoto lenses with a resolution of 200 megapixels as the best.

The material says that 200-megapixel lenses are already becoming a trend and should appear in all devices of the future. The report’s authors noted that such sensors can provide high-quality optical zoom—up to 12x. Engineers emphasized the importance of telephoto lenses for portrait photography – they said the main camera is too wide, so portrait images taken with it may turn out distorted.

According to experts, telephoto lenses also naturally create a bokeh effect, separating the subject from the background. A larger sensor will create a shallower depth of field than a smaller one at the same focal length. At the same time, Samsung did not say when they would launch smartphones with a similar lens on the market.

At the end of September, the well-known insider Tech_Reve said that the Samsung Galaxy S24 will receive 16 gigabytes of RAM and a titanium case. The future flagship of the Korean company will also come with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and a built-in stylus.
