As part of the government program “Laptop for students”, fourth-grade primary school students will receive laptops. Free equipment will be provided to children under the Act on supporting digital competences of students and teachers, passed by the Parliament in May this year. But what if the computer gets damaged? Are government program laptops covered by a warranty?
Warranty for “Laptop for students”. What are the conditions for servicing the equipment?
Computers are purchased centrally and then transferred to specific institutions, from where they are delivered to students through their parents or legal guardians. Collecting the equipment requires signing a contract between you and the parent. If it is accepted, the parent receives the computer as its own, which carries with it responsibility.
Laptops are covered by a 36-month warranty, under which the manufacturer or a designated service center is obliged to repair them. In the case of more serious faults, the removal of which may take more than five business days, the service technician should provide the student with a replacement computer with similar parameters.
Damage or loss of a laptop from a government program. What are the consequences?
However, the parent or legal guardian may refuse to sign the contract. In such a case, the laptop becomes the property of the educational institution, and the parent may accept it under a loan agreement. However, if we damage the computer through improper use or lose it completely, the parent or legal guardian will be obliged to return the money or purchase equipment with the same technical data.
The amount of the refund will depend on how much time has passed since the contract was signed and the amount the new device was valued at. The situation is slightly different when we used it on the basis of a loan agreement. In such a situation, we will have to refund the money for the damaged equipment.
