In a statement last weekend, Bahamas Immigration announced the arrest of a group of Ecuadorians.

Between Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17, 36 Ecuadorian citizens were arrested, 19 men and 16 women, as well as one minor. A Dominican was also arrested.

This process is said to be related to their immigration status in the Caribbean country, as the statement explained that with these actions they secured the promise to regularize the movement of people in that country.

After evaluation, the group was transferred to a detention center in Carmichael Road.

Bimini is a district of the Bahamas made up of several islands and considered the closest point to the continental United States.

According to figures from the Bahamas Immigration Department, 66 Ecuadorians were repatriated in 2022 and 60 were detained during the year. (JO)
