Last Thursday, Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) announced that 350 migrants had been found in the box of a trailer.

The group of migrants included women, men and minors from Guatemala, Ecuador, Honduras and El Salvador. The vehicle was detected at a toll booth between the municipalities of Córdoba and Coatzacoalcos (Veracruz) via a gamma radiation device.

In a statement, the entity explained that along with security elements, shouting and knocking were heard on the back door of the coffin and that the migrants, after breaking the seals, moved a screen that prevented air from entering.

They identify 178 migrants who traveled on a bus in Mexico, nine of whom were Ecuadorians

The majority of citizens were from Guatemala, along with six Ecuadorians, three Hondurans and one Salvadoran.

“Minors and those who formed family units will remain under the guardianship of the local System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family (DIF); Meanwhile, the adults were taken to an INM headquarters in the state to begin the process of determining their immigration status in Mexico,” it indicated.

Mexico is a transit country for migrants wanting to reach the United States. Immigration authorities are carrying out several checks and have reported operations involving the rescue of migrants left on roads or in homes. (JO)
