Cyber attack on the Coca-Cola company. Hackers got money

On a popular hacker forum, criminals posted a message to the company in which they presented threats. “After a certain period of time, your data will be gradually transferred to the public domain. You can still protect your reputation and keep most of your data secret, but you have less and less time to do so. The choice is yours, Coca-Cola FEMSA,” reads the hackers’ message.

TheSnake group initially demanded $12 million in exchange for deleting all the stolen files. However, the company negotiated a payment of $1.5 million to prevent the leak of only some files. Ransomware attacks hit companies

– Ransomware attacks are still very often used by hackers. If a company does not give in to cybercriminals’ demands, its stolen data is usually put up for sale on the dark web [tzw. Darknet – przyp. red.], where everyone can get them. Such a situation is not only a severe blow to the reputation of the injured company, but also poses a threat to all network users whose data was leaked, because they are often the targets of subsequent cyberattacks – said Mariusz Politowicz from Marken Systemy Antivirus, a Polish distributor of Bitdefender software.
