Neowin: Microsoft Surface Duo foldable smartphone declared obsolete
Microsoft has declared its only Android-based device obsolete. This was reported by Neowin.
The American company said it will no longer release updates for its first foldable smartphone. Surface Duo was announced in October 2019, and since then the device has received two major Android updates.
Media journalists noted that the folding device was distinguished by an incredibly thin body and durable hinges, but was imperfect in technical terms. Thus, the flagship device did not receive 5G support and a sensor for NFC contactless payment. The device had a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of internal memory.
According to experts, Surface Duo was the only device from Microsoft that ran on Android OS, not Windows. The material says that the company was never able to release Android updates optimized for a smartphone with two screens. Journalists also noted the high cost of the device – 1.4 thousand dollars, or about 135 thousand rubles.
At the end of August, a patent for a folding smartphone from the American company Microsoft was discovered online. The document says that the new device is capable of folding 360 degrees.
