With three days to go until the month of the death of a 3-year-old migrant girl registered on a bus in the United States, the result of the autopsy is known.

The baby was not doing well at all. At the time she boarded the unit, from Texas to Chicago, the minor, along with her family members, had a fever.

Noticias Telemundo reported on September 7, 2023 that the autopsy showed and highlighted that an Illinois forensic doctor indicated that the minor “boarded the bus with a mild, mild fever and worsened during the journey, developing symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.” The girl’s death occurred on August 10.

Migrants sent to Chicago

The girl, 3 years old, was identified as Jismary Alejandra Barboza González. A great-aunt, Gisela González, told Telemundo that the family decided to travel to the United States and left Colombia in May this year.

González said the girl was born in Colombian countries. However, BBC Mundo and CNN en Español reported that the victim was from Venezuela. While Univision He indicated that Jismari’s parents were from Venezuela.

The family arrived on American soil and, as happened by decision of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, was sent to Chicago along with other migrants.

The family managed to reach the northern United States because the governor of Texas has a program where they send immigrants to so-called “sanctuary cities.”

Through mid-August, Abbot had sent 4,600 migrants to Chicago on buses, Telemundo Chicago reported.

The girl’s health condition while riding the bus

The bus left “from the city of Brownsville, on the border with Mexico. Before departure, passengers’ temperatures were screened and they were asked if they had any medical conditions,” Texas officials said, according to the BBC.

When the girl’s health appeared to deteriorate, the bus stopped and security personnel on board called 911, he added.

The autopsy revealed that a bacterial infection and other factors caused a girl’s death, Telemundo Chicago noted. For his age, his weight and height were, they said, low.

The bacterial infection and aspiration pneumonia, along with diarrhea and vomiting, caused electrolyte problems, brain swelling and ultimately Jismary’s death, Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon said.

Noticias Telemundo added that “the minor died of bacterial colitis due to Shigella Flexneri, an intestinal disease.” Just two weeks before Jismari turned four, tragedy struck the family.
